Shift At Midnight launched on July 22, 2026 at a base price of $9.99 on Steam — and yes, there's a free demo, and yes, it's day-one on Xbox Game Pass. This page has the current price, active discounts, and the best ways to play without paying full price.

Pricing is identical across Steam and Xbox for the standalone purchase. Regional pricing may vary slightly due to currency conversion and Steam's regional adjustment — check the Steam store for your local price.

Is there a free demo?

Yes. The Steam demo covers the first three nights of the main story, including the first Hunt encounter. It's the same client as the full game, just with a save-file cap at Night 3.

The demo is free forever, no time limit, no microtransactions. You can finish it as many times as you want. If you decide to buy the full game, your demo save does not carry over (this is a Steam limitation, not a developer choice).

Xbox Game Pass

Shift At Midnight is on Xbox Game Pass from day one (July 22, 2026). If you have an active Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription, you can play the full game without buying it.

Game Pass status is currently confirmed available, no removal date announced. Historically, indie games stay on Game Pass for 12–24 months before cycling out, but that's publisher-dependent.

Steam sales and discounts

There is currently no discount on the base game — it's $9.99 at full price. The only active savings are the three launch bundles below.

Shift At Midnight released on July 22, 2026, so it hasn't yet been through a major Steam seasonal event. Based on historical patterns for indie games in this category, expect the first meaningful discount (20–33%) at the next seasonal sale, with 50% more likely 6–12 months post-launch. Valve's rules also prevent a game from discounting within 30 days of release, which is why nothing has moved yet.

Is it worth $9.99?

At full price, yes — see our Review page for the full breakdown. Short version: at $9.99 with 8–15 hours of main story content plus Endless Mode, you're getting better-than-movie-ticket value per hour.

If $9.99 still feels like too much, the demo is free and the Game Pass trial is $1 for the first month. Either way, you can play at least the first three nights without committing.

If you already own the paired game, the bundle discount applies only to the portion you're missing ("complete the bundle" pricing), so it's still worth checking rather than buying standalone.

Refund policy

Both Steam and Xbox offer refunds within their standard windows:

• Steam: Refund within 14 days of purchase, less than 2 hours of playtime. Almost always approved if requested politely.
• Xbox: Refund within 14 days, less than 2 hours of playtime, via Xbox Support.
