Shift At Midnight Store Management — Quotas, Restocking & Daily Ops
Between the Doppelgangers, you actually have to run a gas station. Store management — quotas, restocking and daily ops — is what pays your salary, and it's where most players leak money without realizing it. Here's how to run the shift like a pro.
How the Quota System Works
Each night, the store has a revenue quota you need to hit. Your personal salary is built on beating it:
- Daily salary: $10 base + 10% of store earnings above quota.
- Miss the quota and you lose that commission; crush it and your personal funds climb fast.
The quota isn't a hard fail state — you can work a night below it — but every missed dollar is a dollar that isn't building toward the $250 True Ending requirement (Money guide).
Restocking & Shelves
The store drains during the shift:
- Stock the shelves as customers buy items — empty shelves mean lost sales and a missed quota.
- Restock from the back room between customers, not during them. Two customers at once is the fastest way to lose an ID check to panic.
- Don't over-stock the register. Shelf stock earns; stock sitting un-sold is idle. Restock to demand, not to full.
Daily Operations Checklist
Run this loop every night, in order:
- Pre-shift sweep — collect every golden token around the store before reading the notice board (reading it starts the shift).
- Stock the shelves before the first customer hits the door.
- Serve and identify — register player handles the queue (see Co-op roles for the split).
- Chores between customers — stains, trash, rats, toilet. These are your personal income.
- Re-stock when shelves empty — check after every 2–3 customers.
- Close the shift — any cleanup you skipped is money left on the floor.
Chores = Personal Money, Sales = Store Money
The key management distinction:
| Source | Pays into |
|---|---|
| Sales / quota beating | Store revenue → 10% commission |
| Chores (stains, trash, rats, toilet) | Personal funds directly |
| Boss/manager tasks | Personal funds directly ($20) |
| Prize wheel | Store revenue |
Your personal funds are what matter for the True Ending — so never skip chores or boss tasks, even when the store is quiet. See the full economy breakdown in the Money guide.
Common Management Mistakes
- Ignoring restocking. The #1 silent quota killer — customers can't buy from empty shelves.
- Doing chores mid-Hunt. If a Doppelganger got through, money is secondary; survival first (Hunt guide).
- Not separating store vs personal funds. Wheel winnings and sales don't count toward your $250 — only salary, chores and boss tasks do.
- Skipping the toilet. $0.40 per clean, and it resets every night — the easiest repeatable income in the game.
- Killing rats. Trash them alive into the dumpster for $3.00 instead of $0.10 — the single best chore in the game.
FAQ
Can I fail the game by missing quota? No. Missed quota just means less commission. You can complete every shift below quota; the True Ending is about personal funds, not store revenue.
Do shelves restock automatically? No — you restock manually from the back room. This is the one management task you can't skip.
Does store management matter in Endless Mode? The revenue loop continues, but Endless Mode removes Patience and adds the Rakes — management pressure shifts to survival (Endless Mode guide).
What's the fastest daily management win? The pre-shift token sweep + rat-to-dumpster rule. Both cost seconds and directly feed personal funds.
