Shift At Midnight Tools, Weapons & Items — Complete List
Identification and survival in Shift At Midnight depend on your equipment. This page covers every scanning tool, every weapon, and the utility items that quietly run the station.
Scanning & Identification Tools
N.E.T. Database (computer)
Your first and most-used tool. Search any name to pull up photo, date of birth, occupation and records. Search everyone — including relatives and friends your customers mention. Contradictions between the database and what a customer says are the backbone of identification (see the Doppelganger list).
Midnight News (notice board)
The back-room board posts news relevant to that night's customers. Emilia Carter's library tell, for example, only exists because of a notice here. Read it every shift before serving anyone.
Anomaly Lens (camera / "the iPad")
The game-changing unlock. Point it at a customer to reveal supernatural traits directly:
| Customer | What the Lens shows |
|---|---|
| Aria Romero | Face distortion (her painted-looking glasses are real — not a tell) |
| Kevin Larson | Dancing ("groovy") |
| Net Pongsak | Levitation, always facing the camera |
| Ren Takahashi | A cat |
| Wade Callahan | A flesh parasite |
| Vivien Marrow | A jump scare — guaranteed Doppelganger once the Lens is unlocked |
Players often ask "how do I effectively use the anomaly iPad?" — the answer: use it on every customer, not just suspicious ones. It catches fakes the database can't.
Anomaly Camera
A fixed camera system with a different quirk: Amelia Kramer's Doppelganger is invisible on it — no image appears at all. Absence of an image is itself the tell. Note the screener doesn't work on drivers; the Emotiscope does.
Emotiscope / EmotiScanner (unlocks Shift 6)
Reads emotional states. The signature catch: Ramona Delgado, whose reading shows she is "craving human flesh." Also your tool for drivers, whom the Anomaly screener can't read.
Weapons
| Type | Weapons | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Melee | Brick, Baseball bat, Sledgehammer | Cheap; fine for Shrieking Dolls |
| Ranged | Pistol (default), SMG, Shotgun, Flamethrower | Flamethrower is the Hunt meta |
| Traps | Bear traps, Landmines | Best counter to the Demented — bait them onto a trap line |
Bought a shotgun and can't find it? Purchased weapons spawn at set station locations rather than your hands — check the counter area and storage. (This is one of the most common Reddit questions.)
Utility Items
Generator
Restores power when it fails. Restarting it triggers the Elongated Doppelganger (an SCP-3008-style stretched figure) — harmless, but brace yourself.
Toilet Paper — the secret weapon
The community's favorite discovery:
- Pelt customers with TP — humans tolerate about 9 hits; keep going and it gets messy (each blood puddle is another $0.10 to clean, if you're into that).
- TP kills Doppelgangers and can kill robbers with no penalty.
- A robber event can be resolved safely and penalty-free this way.
Tokens
Found around the store each night. Spend 5 on the prize wheel: possible $10 store revenue or hats. Once all hats are unlocked, hat results refund the 5 tokens.
Bandages vs Medkit
- Bandages: usable while running — combat healing.
- Medkit (token purchase): stand-still channel that resets when hit — barricade-only healing.

FAQ
Which tool should I upgrade first? The Anomaly Lens. It directly reveals the most Doppelgangers per use.
Do I need every tool to beat the game? No — but later Doppelgangers (Ramona, Vivien) are only catchable with specific tools, so don't skip unlocks.
