Shift At Midnight has three endings, decided by two things: whether you call Clyde after Shift 12, and whether you can afford the $250 pet surgery by Night 13. Two endings are easy. The True Ending is a tight economic challenge — this page covers both proven methods.

⚠️ Critical warning: killing Clyde Dawson (the sheriff) at any point voids all three ending achievements — if he's dead, there is no one to call. Several co-op teams have discovered this the hard way.

The Three Endings

Ending Requirement Outcome
True Ending Don't call Clyde + have $250 personal funds by Night 13 The pet gets surgery and survives
Grave Decision Call Clyde after Shift 12 Clyde sacrifices himself for the pet
Empty Home Don't call Clyde + less than $250 The pet dies

All three ending achievements are earnable solo — you don't need a team for any of them.

True Ending — Method 1: The Clean Run (Intended)

The legitimate route. Your income is $10 base per day + 10% of store earnings above quota, so a $150 day pays you $25. The margin is razor-thin — community testers finished $2 and $20 short on near-perfect runs. Requirements:

  1. Never kill a human. Even one mistake can cost you the run — the penalty is that large.
  2. Do every chore. With a partner, dedicate one person to trash, blood cleanup, rats and roaches full-time.
  3. Throw rats in the dumpster ($3) instead of killing them ($0.10).
  4. Collect tokens and gamble on the wheel — a lucky spin wins $10 store revenue.
  5. Complete boss tasks — the $20 reward goes straight into personal funds.
  6. Pay the $40 pet medicine whenever prompted (skipping it likely kills the pet early).
  7. Expect some luck variance: the number of impostors per night is randomized, so low-customer days can cap your earnings around $100.

This method demands a near-flawless run. If that sounds miserable, Method 2 is the community favorite.

True Ending — Method 2: Let Everyone Buy (The Exploit)

There is no penalty for letting a Doppelganger complete a purchase (beyond the entity it spawns). So:

  1. Scan, charge and release every customer — human and Doppelganger alike. Revenue soars.
  2. Spend the money on weapons — traps, flamethrower, shotgun — and survive the nightly Hunts. The fights are easy when you're armed to the teeth (see the Hunt guide).
  3. By Night 9–10 you should hold the $250; play the final nights normally.
  4. On Night 13, pay for the surgery → True Ending.

You'll fight an entity almost every night, but the math overwhelmingly favors this route.

Grave Decision

Call Clyde after Shift 12. He comes to the station and sacrifices himself so the pet can live. The simplest "good-ish" ending if the money never materialized.

Empty Home

Don't call Clyde and fall short of $250. The pet dies and the station goes quiet. The easy default — avoid it with either method above.

The missing dog poster (Guillermo, brown fur) is widely considered a red herring — it is not Tofu (the golden service dog belonging to Charles Wigglebottom), and community consensus is that there is no way to "get" the lost dog. Don't sink money into that mystery.

FAQ

Do I need co-op for any ending? No. Every ending and every achievement is achievable solo.

What if I already killed Clyde? The ending achievements are voided for that run. Start a new one — and keep the sheriff alive this time.

Is Method 2 intended? Unconfirmed, but it works and the community uses it widely. No patch has removed it as of this writing.
